Juried Selection of Finalists
A jury of leaders in electronics designing, manufacturing, and recycling will review all entries that meet the competition submission requirements. The jury will select finalists from entries received in each of the two categories according to the judging criteria set forth in the "Rules" section of this web site. The decisions of the jury are final.
The Jury will award one entry from each of the two categories a Platinum Award of 3,000 USD, a Gold Award of 2,000 USD, and a Silver Award of 1,000 USD, for a total of six monetary awards. The decisions of the jury are final. Honorable Mention awards may be given at the discretion of the judges, and will receive certificates and recognition on the competition web site and in press releases. No cash prizes will be given for Honorable Mentions.
Winning individuals or teams will receive the prizes as indicated. Honorable mention awards will be given at the discretion of the judges. Any prize details not specified above will be determined by the event organizer at its sole discretion. Prizes are not transferable or refundable and must be accepted as awarded. No substitution prize may be made, except by the event organizer, who reserves the right to alter prizes if required by local laws. The winner is responsible for any and all other costs and taxes associated with receipt of a prize.
Note: Please be advised that participants from outside the United States of America or foreign national students currently studying within the United States may be asked to submit further paperwork for tax purposes if they or their team wins one of the cash awards in this competition. In such a situation, you MUST complete and submit the additional tax forms in order to receive your prize.
Winning entries will be exhibited to the public through the www.ewaste.illinois.edu website and press events. Winning entries will be publicized through the www.ewaste.illinois.edu website, the Sustainable Electronics Initiative (SEI) web site (www.sustainelectronics.illinois.edu), the Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) web site (www.istc.illinois.edu), YouTube channels related to those sites, press events, and other University of Illinois promotional materials. The organizers will not claim rights to the intellectual property of the entries, but all entrants should know that their submissions will be made public.
The winning entries will be announced on the competition website (www.ewaste.illinois.edu). The awards ceremony will be broadcast as a webinar on December 4th, 2012. Register online to attend the webinar.
